"Women's bodies have their own wisdom, and a system of birth refined over 100,000 generations is not so easily overpowered." -- Sarah Buckley
Birth Doula Services
It's important to find a doula who is a great match for the mother and her partner or other support person. Let's schedule a free, no obligation "meet and greet" where we can get to know each other, talk about your desired birth experience, and where I can answer questions you may have about using a doula. We should be able to determine after that meeting whether we will work well together.

What you can expect when you hire me:
Informational support:
- Once you have hired me, feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions, need referrals, or just want some emotional support.
Up to 4 home visits:
- At prenatal visits we'll discuss your plans for your birth, explore comfort measures for pain and fatigue, define the role each person you invite into the birth room will take, and continue to get to know one another. I will assist you in writing your birth plan, signing up for services to organize friends to assist you after the birth, creating your baby shower registry, etc. I can lend you books or videos from my library, or recommend books or videos for purchase or from the library. I'll ensure that you are knowledgeable about the birth process, and fill in any knowledge gaps left after your childbirth classes.
- At postpartum visits, we can explore your questions about newborn care, discuss breastfeeding difficulties, or I can help with small errands around the house. We will discuss your labor and birth to ensure that you are left with a positive overall experience, and I'll provide the notes I took during labor and birth.
Continuous labor support:
- I am on call 24/7 from 2 weeks prior to your estimated delivery date until the baby is born. I will join you whenever you are ready for me, at your home or place of birth, and will be with you continuously until 1-2 hours after your baby is born and your new family is settled in. Of course I'm also available should your labor start prior to that 2-week window, it just may take me a little more time to rearrange my schedule!
- For scheduled Cesarean births, I will accompany you to the hospital and won't leave until you're successfully nursing. If your baby is in the NICU, I'll ensure that you've seen pictures or video of your new baby and are comfortable and resting.
Cost of Services
The cost for birth doula services is $1000, with a $500 deposit due when we sign the contract and the balance due within 2 weeks after the birth. Once we sign a contract, I am on call for you 24/7 from two weeks prior to your estimated delivery date until the baby is born, and available for phone or email support at any time. Of course if you go into labor earlier, I will make every effort to attend the birth or to provide a backup.
I have a TENS (Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation) unit for rent, which can be useful for back pain during labor. It requires authorization by your health care provider.
If you are unable to afford the cost of my services, I may be able to direct you to a newly-trained doula who is working towards certification who may be able to offer services at a lower fee.
